MY WORK
In creating moving-image works, I aim to choreograph interactions between the world, my own guiding hand, and a set of technological apparatus. I use video as a medium for connecting with things outside of myself, or studying whether such a connection is possible in the first place. Accordingly, my practice is one of communicating a sensual experience of being in the world. This ethic of sharing is one that drives me to bring cinema into a sculptural context, to expand the way the work interacts with its context and spectators.
If there is a sense of pleasure, or even formal beauty, in my images, that could be because I see the drive to interact with something outside the self as a kind of eros, or desire. Akin to cinema, reading and writing is at once a totally individual experience, and one that connects one with others and reshapes the perceived world. I consider moving images as slow writing, and words as images unto themselves.
